Choey Memorial Pentathlon
Feb. 1997 Choey Memorial Newsletter

Well, it’s cold and gray outside and thoughts of summer are dancing in our heads. We know this letter is a little late but we’ve been a busy with life in general. We thought we would wrap up 1996 before we start talking about 1997.

Greenie can’t wait until the Pentathlon for no other reason than his two roommates are annoying the hell out of him. Defending champs my ass!! So he didn’t win a trophy last year, so once again he was shut out, he just wants to be loved, is that so wrong!?!?!

Some memorable moments from last year’s event. What a great view thanks to Helmut and Mac and their mighty chain saws. No show for Ken and Walt, can anyone say "SISSIES"? Uh, could we possibly have more people staying over this year? How about that float on Sunday, 53 people, unbelievable. Hey Mac and Pat, you going to let those wimps Tim and Jim beat your asses in the Keg Throw AGAIN..Go for the knees Mac, go for the knees!!!!! Does anyone else remember the 19 inning championship Wiffleball game between Chris R./Brian L. and Tim M./Jim M.? Well Dan and Karen, Elvis was annoying as usual.

Some final stats we thought you all would enjoy. For the first time ever, there were more Co-Ed teams than Men’s teams, 22 vs. 17. Both divisions were hotly contested and weren’t decided until the end of BeerPong, it doesn’t get any better than that. Keith and Steve took 2nd over Chris and Brian because remember that BeerPong is the tie-breaker. Please Chris, no more late night phone threats, the call stands. The Co-Ed division was anyone’s race but Jon Zanger became the FIRST person to win a Pentathlon Championship with different partners, his wife Julia (beer bath ‘95) and Cathy Connor (hard boiled egg ‘96). There has been much controversy about the handicapping system in place for the Keg Throw. However, looking at the final results, it is hard to argue against it. Third place and 8th place were separated by a mere 5’2"!!! Are you kidding me?? This was the CLOSEST contest of the day. Considering 18 throws were taken by those 6 teams, to have the score as close as it was says the system is about as perfect as it gets. WE’RE talking INCHES. Believe us, Greenie’s a man who knows the importance of an inch (or four).

O.K. Let’s Get Ready To Ruummmbbbbllllleeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

1997 is coming up fast. This year’s festivities will be the weekend of Friday July 18th, Saturday July 19th, and Sunday July 20th.

One more time.

This year’s festivities will be the weekend of Friday July 18th, Saturday July 19th, and Sunday July 20th.

All are welcome to come up anytime on Friday to help set up and of course with all that hard work we’ll have food and grog to quench that thirst and appetite!! If the response from last year is any indication, you might want to come up early on Friday to claim your plot of land.

There is a new event set for this year’s Pentathlon, DARTS. Darts will be staged during the early session, so now there are 5 events in the early session: Wiffleball, Badminton, Horseshoes, Foosball, and Darts. The late session will remain the same 3 events: Egg Throw, Keg Throw, and Golf.

The entry fee this year will be the same as last year, $70.00. This will include all you can eat and drink from Friday morning to Sunday night, door prizes, the pig roast, and of course a Kuch original T-shirt. Unfortunately, this year we are going to need to rent rafts for Sunday’s float down the Delaware. There will be an additional cost for those people going down the river. We haven’t got the exact cost yet but we don’t think it will be more than $15.00/person.

The raffle this year should again be even better than last year’s. Raffle Tickets will be priced the same as last year: 1 Ticket-$5.00, 3 Tickets-$10.00, 7 Tickets-$20.00, or 10 Tickets-$25.00. If anyone has anything to raffle off, PLEASE LET US KNOW. Any and all gifts would be appreciated. Please remember, this week-end has grown to what it is now because people have contributed their time and efforts. We could use any and all help to continue to make this week-end even bigger and better than it has been.

Kuch is hard at work on the T-shirts and he won’t disclose anything about them so stop hounding us!!! We don’t know how he will make the shirt or if he is even going to do another Top 10. What we do know is that they will be the same great quality and we’re sure they will be memorable as one’s in the past. As we did last year, every competitor will receive a shirt for entering, but we will sell extra shirts (while supplies last) for $5.00.

Traditionally this is our keep in touch section. Beaner has moved to Arizona so he no longer is backing up them Big Rigs (you don’t really think we’re ever going to let him live that down). Dan and Karen Harris have built a house just outside of Boston and there have been Elvis sightings. Keith Salmon also moved to Boston where he too has a new job. Melissa is still busy with The Inn of the Hawke but says it’s doing well. Helmut still has the best job in America while Cathy has just changed positions and now works for Merrill Lynch. Hopefully we didn’t forget any big news but if we did, we’re sure you all would let us know in your own special ways.

Bring your friends and we’ll see you July 18, 19, and 20!!!!!!!!!!

Greenie, Kuch, and Melissa
