Beer Pong

BEER PONG Rules

  1. If you play, you drink.
  2. If you drink, you don't drive.
  3. Beer Pong is played on a regulation ping-pong table with the Beer Pong goblet placed on the center line one (1) paddle length from the edge of the table.
  4. Every time a team's glass is hit by the ball in play, their opponents are awarded one (1) point and the team that was hit must drink one (1) gulp of beer unless otherwise stated in the rules.
  5. A team wins if their opponent's glass has been hit seven times or the ball is floating in the opponent's beer.
  6. The losing team must finish the remainder of their beer.
  7. Play is stopped when:
The ball hits a wall, floor or light fixture.
The ball is floating in goblet.
Referee stops game.
  1. The serve is determined by the flip of a coin called by the lower seed.  The winner of the toss has the option of the serve or side of the table.
  2. The serve must be a legal ping-pong serve.
  3. A team is allowed two (2) faults on the serve.  After third fault, the non-serving team is awarded one (1) point.
  4. The opponent's goblet may not be hit on the serve.  If the serving team hits the opponent's goblet on the serve, the opposing team is awarded one (1) point.  If the serving team sinks on the serve, the serving team loses immediately.
  5. After the initial serve, a team must serve when:
A. Their goblet has been the last hit.
B. They hit the ball into the net.
C. It is after a penalty shot and they are the offending team.
D. The ball has hit their side of the table last.
  1. If the serving team hits their own goblet with the ball, or sinks the ball into their own goblet while attempting to serve, the receiving team will be awarded a point or the win.  Once the ball has passed the serving team's goblet on the serve, a point will not be awarded until a legal serve has been completed.  i.e.- A ball is served into the net and bounces back, hitting the serving team's goblet.  The receiving team will not be awarded a point.
  2. The ball may bounce an infinite number of times on either side of the net after the ball has crossed the net on the serve.
  3. A team may not touch the ball before it passes the plane of the goblet.  If in the judgment of the referee, the ball would have hit the goblet, the opposing team is awarded a point.  If the referee judges that the ball would have gone in, the team will forfeit the game.
  4. When a team hits their opponent's goblet and the ball bounces back over the net past their own goblet, they are allowed a free un-returnable shot at their opponent's goblet.
  5. If a team hits their opponent's goblet for the seventh hit and the ball bounces back over the net and hits their own goblet for the sixth hit or less, the team hit for the seventh time loses after the winning team drinks their penalty.
  6. If a team hits their opponent's goblet for the seventh hit and the ball bounces back over the net and hits their own goblet for the seventh hit, or sinks into the goblet, the game is declared a tie.  If this occurs during tournament play, overtime will determine the winner.
  7. If a team hits their opponent's goblet for the sixth hit or less and the ball bounces back over the net and hits their own goblet for the seventh time or sinks into the goblet loses after the team that first hit drinks their penalty drink.
  8. If the ball enters into a team's goblet, but pops out without touching the goblet, no point is awarded.
  9. During play, both players on a team must be involved in the play of the game.  If the referee judges that a team is "hiding" a player, the referee will
A. Warn the team on the first offense.
B. Award the opposing team one (1) point on the second offense.
C. Forfeit the team on the third offense.
  1. If, at any time, a team hits their goblet with a paddle and the goblet does not fall over, the opposing team is awarded a penalty shot.  A penalty shot is an unopposed legal serve at the penalized team's goblet.  If the goblet is hit, a point is awarded.  If the ball is sunk, the penalized team loses.
  2. A team automatically forfeits the game being played if they knock their goblet over but it does not break.
  3. A team automatically forfeits the game being played and is banned from further competition that day if they break the goblet.  Future tournament play of the offending team must be voted upon by the Beer Pong Council.

Tournament Play

  1. The length of an official game during tournament play may be either 5 hit/sink with a 5 minute time limit or 7 hit/sink with a 7 minute time limit.  This will be announced prior to each round of the tournament.

  2. If the referee judges that a team is stalling, the referee will:

    A. Warn the team on the first offense
    B. Award the opposing team one (1) point on the second offense.
    C. Forfeit the team on the third offense

  3. Time is a running time.  There is no stoppage of time except for:
    1) A Team Time out - 1 timeout/game/team.
    2) Referee judges a team to be stalling.
    3) Referee judges equipment problems.

Overtime

  1. The first team to hit their opponent's goblet three (3) times or sink it in their opponent's goblet wins.  There is a two minute time limit.

  2. If neither team reaches three points at the end of overtime, the team with the lead wins.

  3. If the teams are still tied at the end of overtime, sudden death will occur.  The first hit in sudden death wins.
